A KIND OF TRIBUTE TO JOHN CAGE is a work realized during the laboratory of Ecology of Sound directed by Francesco Giannico in Carosino, a small village near Taranto (Puglia, Italy). This workshop is part of the project called “CAETE” from an idea of the “LAB LIB” association. The DVD combines music and video composed mostly by childrens who partecipated to the workshop “Ecology Of Sound”. They built phisically, with the help of national and international musicians, a chaotic mini orchestra. The word “chaotic” means that the music is composed with audio samples recorded from unconventional instruments, recycled found objects like plastic bags, pots, toys, etc., played by the orchestra trying to follow the basic idea of the famous video “Water Walk” of John Cage. Then these sounds were processed through two overdubs: one with the field recodings made during the sound mapping of Carosino, the other one with the musical contributions of national and international artists who have supported the project. The video follows the same path of the music, the images were processed digitally and they are closely related to the sound mapping of the village.
